E3 08: Konami Teases Silent Hill: Homecoming

During the second day of E3 festivities, Konami held its annual E3 press conference, and the star of its lineup was none other than Silent Hill: Homecoming.
This latest entry into the Silent Hill series, which is coming to the Xbox 360 and PS3 in Q4 2008, introduces a free camera system as well as seamless transitions between the real world and the Hellstate world. The trailer for Homecoming was impressive, and the gameplay walk-through showed off the new free-camera feature as well as a physics engine provided by Havok. The game also sports an enhancec combat system.

The newest Silent Hill installment follow main character Alex Shepherd, who returns to his hometown of Shepherd's Glen to investigate the disappearance of his brother, which takes him to Silent Hill. Homecoming promises to delve deeper into the history of the town and also explore the evil of Toluca Lake. The game features next-generation graphics that power more detailing weather effects like fog as well as dark, shadowy lighting. And of course, Homecoming will have an all-new soundtrack by acclaimed series composer Akira Yamaoka

Konami also announced several new titles for the Castlevania franchise. Castlevania: Judgment is a 3D fighter-adventure title for the Wii, and Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia is the third in a successful line of 2D action-adventure games. Also announced was Rock Revolution, which uses guitars and drums similar to Rock Band to immerse the user in a realistic music title which hopes to stand out in what seems to be a crowded genre.
